Leeds Girls High School
Leeds Girls' High School (LGHS) was a private girls' school. It opened in 1876 in Headingley, Leeds. Girls from ages 3 to 18 attended. The Infant School, Rose Court, was on the Senior School site. The Junior School, Ford House, was a mile away in a large house.
The Senior School building dates back to the early 1900s. There's an effort to get it listed as a historic site. The Assembly Hall had oak panels. These panels showed where former students went to university. The library had furniture by Robert Thompson, known as The Mouseman. This furniture was sold when the school moved. In 2005, LGHS joined with Leeds Grammar School. Together, they formed the Grammar School at Leeds.
The school building became a TV set. It was used as St Matthews' Hospital in "Monroe." This ITV medical drama aired in 2011. The first episode had high ratings on 10 March 2011. A second series followed in 2012. ITV cancelled "Monroe" on 14 November 2012 due to low viewership.
