Coed Talon Primary School, Pontybodkin
Coed Talon Primary School began in 1885 as the Tryddyn Board School to serve the growing industrial village of Coed Talon in Flintshire. It was established to educate children locally as the population expanded with coal mining and related industries. In 1904 the school was renamed Coed Talon Council School under local authority control. Starting with around 43 pupils, it rapidly grew, reaching about 157 on the register by 1904, with additional classrooms added over time.
After World War II, the school briefly became a Welsh-medium school in 1950, reflecting demand for Welsh-language education locally. However, this change was short-lived: in 1953 the newly built Ysgol Terrig opened as the Welsh-medium primary for the area, and Coed Talon resumed teaching in English. Coed Talon continued to serve its community through the mid-20th century. It closed in September 1992, as education provision was reorganised locally. Its role was transferred to the new Ysgol Parc Y Llan on the Treuddyn Campus, alongside other local schools.
