Hall Of Giants, Accrington
The Hall of Giants culvert carries the River Hyndburn for around 300 metres beneath a field near Accrington, Lancashire. Its imposing outfall is particularly striking, with a large brick arch projecting from the ground and forming an unmistakable entrance into the underground watercourse. Inside, the character of the stream changes as the loose rocks of the entrance give way to natural, fractured bedrock, with a succession of pools and cascades making the passage increasingly interesting and challenging.
At the infall, the water pours into a large chamber before beginning its 300-metre journey towards daylight. Beyond the outfall, the route continues towards Minotaur's Lair, while nearby White Ash forms another part of the area's complex network of culverted watercourses.
