St Paul’s Church (Landore), Swansea
St Paul’s Church on Cwm Level Road, Landore, is a Grade II listed Anglican church built in 1902–1903 to serve the rapidly growing industrial communities of Landore and Plasmarl. Designed by notable architect E. M. Bruce Vaughanand constructed by the Weaver Brothers of Swansea, the church was built from brown sandstone with red dressings in a Perpendicular Gothic style, featuring a distinctive polygonal tower and spire, clerestoried nave, and rock-faced interior stonework. It could originally seat around 700 worshippers.
The foundation stone was laid in January 1903, and the church was consecrated on 10 December 1903. Initially part of the large parish of Llangyfelach, Landore became its own ecclesiastical parish in 1906, with St Paul’s as its parish church. Throughout the 20th century, it was a focal point for local religious and community life, with parish records showing consistent activity in baptisms and marriages.
By the early 21st century, however, declining attendance and financial pressures led to its closure. The church was closed in 2014 and later offered for sale, though the building remains a prominent landmark in the area due to its hillside position and architectural character.
