Hyde Falls, Manchester

Hyde Falls is a large underground culvert and drainage chamber located in Hyde, Greater Manchester, designed to carry Wilson Brook beneath the Peak Forest Canal and the M67 motorway. It is defined by a massive subterranean chamber where the brook splits into two distinct waterfalls that drop several metres into a central pool. The structure features a mix of modern concrete box sections and older tunnels reinforced with sprayed concrete over a natural rock bed. In addition to managing the brook's flow, the system serves as a critical overflow for the nearby canal, meaning water levels can rise rapidly and dangerously during heavy rainfall.
